Bringing Nature Home: How You Can Sustain Wildlife with Native Plants, Updated and Expanded, $12.21 (2009)

By Douglas W. Tallamy and Rick Darke

A fascinating rationale for using native plants in suburban landscapes written by Doug Tallamy, an entomologist at the University of Delaware. His book – filled with color photos of insects and the native plants that they thrive on – makes a persuasive argument for filling our landscapes with the native plants that attract beneficial insects, birds and butterflies. A great resource for identifying insects, the book also has thorough lists of native plant species by geographical area. Tallamy also discusses alien species and the harm they do. A must read for gardeners – you’ll come away with a new appreciation for insects and the value of biodiversity.
