Pumpkins01A recent article in the Post and Courier featured local farmer and legend Sidi Limehouse’s efforts to grow heirloom pumpkins. Sidi has also been encouraging local chefs and home cooks to use these pumpkins for more than just decorations. We plan on trying one of these gems for our Thanksgiving pie.   Here are couple of pictures we took of these heirlooms at last weekend’s Harvest Fest at Mullet Hall County Park on Johns Island.   Along with his cousin at Limehouse Produce, Sidi has also been helping Lowcountry Local Pumpkins02First with their one year old Dirt Works incubator farm program on Johns Island.   Efforts such as these, specialty produce and helping new farmers, may be key for the future of preserving Johns Island’s agriculture heritage.
